The events of ‘On Our Way’ unfold over the course of a single night. The film tells the story of Thomas and Anna, two lost souls on the outskirts of society. The story takes place in a world in which romance has been reduced to nostalgia, a place of crumbling beauty characterised by empty run down cinemas, bars and diners. This is Edward Hopper territory.

‘On Our Way’ stars Dorothy Cotter (‘Henry & Sunny’, ‘Bel’s Boys’, ‘The Clinic’) and Matthew Keenan (‘Henry & Sunny’, ‘The Tudors’, ‘The Clinic’) and was written & directed by Fergal Rock (‘Henry & Sunny’, ‘Tom Waits Made Me Cry’). The Director of Photography was Orla Russell-Conway (‘Henry & Sunny’, ‘Full Circle’), and the film will be edited by Nick Callan (‘Henry & Sunny’).

‘On Our Way’ is produced by Fergal Rock and Noni Stapleton and is scheduled for an autumn release.

6 Perspectives on Light

6 Perspectives on Light is a Group Show by 6 Irish artists, Roseanne Lynch, Padraig Spillane, Miriam King, Ciara O’Flynn, Lucy Clarke & Eimear Tunney. It opens at The Greenroom Gallery, Cork Arts Theatre, on Thursday 18th June @ 7pm and runs until Thursday 2nd July 2009.

It is an exhibition of photography, drawing, and painting based on the imagery of light and shade. Traditionally light has been conceived of as an agent that penetrates, illuminates and purges. These six artists use subtle interpretations, geometric representations and organic imagery to convey large and obscure areas of light and shade. They seek to examine the edges upon which light runs, the surfaces upon which it falls, and the materials it pierces.

This group of artists came together through common interests in photography, music and the courses of study they are pursuing or have pursued. Three of the artists work for, or have worked for the print media. Roseanne Lynch worked for four years as Staff Photographer with the Independent Newspapers Group, Ireland. Currently she is pursuing a Masters Degree in Fine Art whilst lecturing part time in Photography at CCAD. Lucy Clarke is currently Staff Photographer with The Journal of Music and she has also been published by The Guardian Newspaper. Lucy played in rock bands before moving to the other side of the camera. She and Padraig Spillane met while studying Philosophy in Dublin. Padraig Spillane worked as a photographer during an internship with The Dubliner magazine, after he won ‘Most Promising Student’ in Photography at CCAD in 2007. Earlier this year his first solo show ‘Affection’ was the subject of much acclaim at the Bishopstown Library. Ciara O’ Flynn is also well known as a musician and she and Eimear Tunney are currently studying Fine Art at CCAD. The other member of the group, Miriam King, formerly studied Architecture at UCD and was most recently the recipient of the Highly Commended Award in Photography from the Crawford Continuing Visual Education exhibition.
